Printed works in the field of biochemistry and biotechnology are mainly held in the Heide-S\u00fcd Branch Library<\/a> (Ha 4). Older collections are held in storage and are available for use in the reading room. The ULB\u2019s catalogues can be used to search for the collections and their locations.<\/p>

Much of the current literature is available in electronic form (e-books, e-journals, databases) and can be accessed within the university network \u2013 via VPN<\/a> accessible even from outside the university. History and Profile of the Subject <\/h3>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

In 1968, the first students were enrolled on the biochemistry degree programme. In the long history of MLU, this represents only a brief period. Nevertheless, it was one of the first independent degree programmes in this subject in Germany. Research and teaching in the subject built on the existing fields of physiological chemistry and physiology. These, in turn, date back to the early 20th century at MLU.<\/p>

\u00a0<\/p>

The Institute of Biochemistry and Biotechnology<\/a> is currently represented by nine chairs: general and technical biochemistry, natural products, plant, protein and theoretical drug biochemistry, enzymology, and microbial and physical biotechnology.<\/p>

\u00a0<\/p>

There are both Bachelor\u2019s and Master\u2019s degree programmes in biochemistry. Related degree programmes include Bioinformatics (Master\u2019s) and Pharmaceutical and Industrial Biotechnology (Master\u2019s).
