Library account & card

Here you can, amongst other things, register online and renew your membership.

You can also use your library account to renew loan periods, reserve items, place orders for periodicals, view an overview of outstanding orders, items on loan and reserved items, and access the fees overview.

Access

You will find your library number on the back of your library card, beneath the barcode.

 

The password is set by default and, since March 2020, consists of the date of birth in the format DDMMYY. For user accounts created prior to this, the default password is the first four letters of the surname (umlauts are removed and all letters are in lower case).

 

You can change your password, and we recommend that you do so. If you have forgotten your password, please use the function Forgotten your password? or contact the to reset it.

Information about your library account
Library card

For Students At Martin Luther University, the student card (USC) also serves as a library card. Staff MLU staff can use their staff card as a library card. State library users They can collect their library card from the local library or have it sent by post.

Changes to personal details

Should your personal details change, students should report this via the University’s Löwenportal. MLU staff and users of the State Library should please present their identity card or passport, together with a certificate of registration or residence permit, at the main library or at one of our branch libraries.

Loss of identity document

In your own interests, please report the loss of your user card immediately.
Users of the State Library can have a replacement library card issued at their local branch. The cost is 17.50 EUR.
Members of the university can obtain a new USC or staff card, subject to a fee, from the Enrolment Office or the Human Resources Department at MLU.

Registration & Membership Renewal

 

To make full use of the collections of the University and State Library of Saxony-Anhalt, you must register. You can do this in person at the Local library or online.

In addition to members and affiliates of Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg, anyone aged 14 or over may be granted access to the University and State Library. Minors are asked to present a written consent of the legal representative. Upon registration, the Terms and Conditions of Use for the University and State Library recognised.

The library card is usually valid for one year. To renew your membership with us, please use the forms below or visit the main library or one of our branch libraries in person.

Students
Students at Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg accept the ULB’s Terms of Use upon enrolment and are granted access to the library before commencing their studies. For students at Martin Luther University, the student card (USC) also serves as their library card. User authorisation is valid for one year only. You can renew it using the form below. You only need to (re)register if you have not used your library account for more than three years.
Staff at MLU
Staff at the MLU You can register in person at any ULB branch. Please bring your staff card, the registration form, an official form of photo ID (identity card, passport with registration certificate or residence permit) and the first page of your employment contract. The employment contract is required for the duration of your membership (based on the duration of the employment contract) and only needs to be shown. Your staff card also serves as your library card.
State library users

State library users (non-university members) must register in person at the local lending desk (August-Bebel-Straße 50). Upon presentation of the registration form and an official form of photo ID, you will be issued with a library card. State library users who register online will receive their library card, along with the necessary login details for their library account, from us at the Local library or by post if you do not live in Halle.

The licence is valid for one year only. You can apply for an extension using the form below.
