About the library

The University and State Library of Saxony-Anhalt (ULB), as the central library of Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg, is responsible for providing information to around 20,000 students and over 4,000 staff members, and is also open to the public. As State Library Saxony-Anhalt collects and preserves literature from and about the Central German region and houses an extensive collection of relevant maps.

 

In her Stock The collection of almost 5 million items includes more than 26,000 current periodicals, in either printed or electronic format, as well as 290,000 microform items. The approximately 1,400 study spaces are spread across the specialist branch libraries. Delivery and interlibrary loan services facilitate access.

Throughout its history spanning more than 300 years, History The library has been able to acquire a rich and historically interesting collection. The historical collections are being gradually digitised as part of various projects and made available free of charge for use.

 

About the Repositories Share_it and Share_DIGit can be used to access these and other open-access collections and research data. At the library, the Specialist Information Service Middle Eastern, North African and Islamic Studies, supported by the virtual specialist library MENAlib and the MENAdoc repository, provides researchers with predominantly specialised literature in the original languages.

 

The ULB offers Training courses and advice on topics such as using the collections, conducting research, academic publishing and research data management.

It is part of the Joint Library Network (GBV) and uses the acquisitions and cataloguing modules of the PICA library software. The library supports open access publishing and favours open-source products when selecting its software solutions.
