Open Access

Reprints

Secondary publication refers to the archiving and making available of previously published, peer-reviewed research papers as parallel publications (the ‘Green Road’ to open access) on document servers (repositories). The aim is to improve access to publications that could not originally be published as open access.

Second publication at the ULB

Through its institutional repository, the ULB offers Share_it a way to upload your publications for secondary publication and make them accessible. You can find a selection of subject-specific repositories at, amongst others, from our site to external services.

As the author, you retain the right to secondary publication. Whether secondary publication is permitted, and in what form, varies from publisher to publisher. The author’s contract is usually the determining factor. An overview of the various publishers’ policies is provided by the SHERPA/ROMEO portal.

If you are unsure about the correct procedures to follow, please contact the Open Science Team We’d be happy to offer advice.

When submitting your publication notification for the University Bibliography You will receive an email containing information about the secondary publication and the deposit licence for Share_it.

The next steps for you are then:

  • Upload of the publisher’s PDF, the manuscript version, etc. on Share_it
  • Submission of the deposit licence
  • Check and approve; if necessary, after the embargo period, by the repository manager.
