Iranian Studies
Iranian Studies has never been taught as a separate subject at MLU. Nevertheless, Persian is regularly taught as a second foreign language at the Department of Arabic and Islamic Studies. Consequently, since its foundation in 1918, the department has built up a substantial collection of teaching materials for learning both Classical and Modern Persian (Farsi).

Library Collection & Acquisitions
The Key areas The focus is on linguistics and literature, as well as religious studies; however, since 1998, it has also included the humanities and social sciences relating to the Middle East and North Africa.
In addition to printed material (much of which is in the languages of the MENA region), the ULB also provides access to a wide range of electronic resources in the Open Access.
In addition, publications on Iranian studies and works in the various Iranian languages form part of the collection of the Library of the German Oriental Society and, since 1998, have been included in the acquisition policy of the Special Collections Department for the Near East, including North Africa (1998–2015) and the Specialist Information Service for Middle Eastern, North African and Islamic Studies (since 2016).
Research
Titles relating to Iranian studies are predominantly held in the Near East / Ethnology Branch Library’s stacks and must be ordered from there via Ha:lit. When searching for titles in non-Latin scripts, the rules applicable in the German library system Rules on transcriptions Please note: The collection of ordered media takes place at the counter of the Steintor Campus Branch Library (Ha 18). With a few exceptions, items held in the stacks may be borrowed to take home. In the reading room of the Branch Library: Near East / Ethnology (Ha 1) houses a section containing general reference works and dictionaries.
