With around 1,600 titles, the ULB boasts a remarkable collection of incunabula. These valuable 15th-century prints found their way into the library through a variety of channels: from private bequests to targeted acquisitions by the Prussian state, or as a result of secularisation during the Napoleonic era.

All incunabula held by the ULB up to 2009 are listed in the catalogue compiled by Marie-Christine Henning Incunabula Census of the University and State Library of Saxony-Anhalt documented; however, some of the items listed there are no longer in the collection. See also the references in the Incunabula Short Title Catalogue (ISTC) as well as in the Complete Catalogue of Early Printed Books.

The ULB is one of Germany’s leading libraries specialising in historical collections, with a large collection of historical prints dating from the 16th to the 19th centuries. Particular areas of focus include prints relating to the Reformation and books from the Age of Enlightenment. Of the approximately 28,000 16th-century prints, 1,736 are held exclusively by the ULB. There are approximately 80,000 titles from the 17th century and approximately 175,000 titles from the 18th century. Numerous old prints have already been digitised as part of various DFG projects.
The old prints are catalogued in K10plus and can therefore be accessed via Ha:Lit in physical and more digital Form can be searched for.
