Wi-Fi
Wi-Fi is available at all ULB Saxony-Anhalt branches. The following Wi-Fi networks are available on the libraries’ premises:
For members of Martin Luther University.
This network provides access to e-resources licensed by the ULB.
For information on configuration, see: wlan.itz.uni-halle.de
For users of the State Library with a valid membership who are not members of Martin Luther University.
E-resources licensed by the ULB can be accessed via this network. The State Library’s Wi-Fi is available at all ULB sites, with the exception, for the time being, of the medical sites: the Medicine Campus branch library (Ha 6) and the University Hospital branch library (Ha 150).
To log in, please use your library card number as your username and your eight-digit date of birth in the DDMMYYYY format as your password; for example, for 1 December 1990, this would be 01121990.
Please note that if you are registering for the first time or your membership has expired, you will not be able to access the service; access will only be available on the next working day (Mon–Fri) following registration or renewal.
If your attempt to log in has failed, you must wait for 20 minutes before trying again. If you attempt to log in again within those 20 minutes, the waiting period will be extended.
For members of other universities.
You log in using the login details provided by your home institution. E-resources licensed by the ULB are not available on the eduroam network. Access to your home institution’s e-resources is possible via an additional VPN connection. Please contact your home institution for further information.
Further information on eduroam and an installation programme can be found here: cat.eduroam.org
The IT Service Centre provides additional information and guidance on eduroam for members of Martin Luther University: wlan.itz.uni-halle.de/eduroam
Scan
All branches are equipped with surface-scan scanners that are gentle on books. Please bring a USB stick with you.
In addition, at many locations, you can use scan tents to help you take photos with your own smartphone.
Please respect copyright.
Surface scanners are available in every branch library and in the central reading rooms, allowing you to scan books without damaging them. The scans must then be saved to a USB stick or, depending on the device, can be sent by email.
Please refer to the instructions for the relevant equipment, which are available on site.
In most branch libraries, you will find what are known as ‘scan tents’. These enable you to take photos or scans yourself using your smartphone. They provide indirect lighting and a smartphone holder. It is recommended that you install a separate scanning app, but this is not essential.
Please refer to the instructions for the relevant equipment, which are available on site.

Dates and time required
If there are more than 10 posters, please register at least 14 days in advance.
On average, it takes 1.5 hours to produce a DIN A0 poster from start to finish. This time may increase to 4 hours due to colour gradients, transparency effects and shading. This does not include time spent on final adjustments or, where necessary, resolving issues with the software used.
Supported file formats
- MS PowerPoint
- Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator
For other document formats, please always create printable PDF files.
Paper quality
- A3 laser printer: plain paper, approx. 90 g/m²;
- Inkjet plotter: plain paper (approx. 140 g/m²), glossy photo paper (approx. 170 g/m²).
All these media are pure white and, based on experience, remain lightfast indoors for at least one year. Coloured media cannot be used because the printer’s ink is not opaque and therefore blends with the colour of the media (resulting in unpredictable print colours).
For standard posters, whether laminated or unlaminated, only special-purpose paper weighing 130 g/m² or more is recommended. Lighter paper tends to curl where there are large areas of dark colour. Although photo paper produces very good print results – albeit at a higher price – it is unsuitable for lamination.
Other printing media, such as clear or white film, can be processed but are not held in stock. They must be ordered separately and should be purchased in larger quantities (at least 5 A0 sheets).
Paper sizes
For printing larger than DIN A3, roll paper with widths of 91.44 cm (36 inches) and 61 cm (24 inches) is used. Given these widths and allowing for the print margin, posters can be printed with a width of up to 90 cm.
| DIN format | Size |

| DIN A1 | 594 × 840 mm |
| DIN A2 | 420 x 594 mm |
| DIN A3 | 297 × 420 mm |
| DIN A4 | 210 x 297 mm |
