Library Collection & Acquisitions

The University and State Library holds a collection of printed works that has grown over time; this collection essentially covers the full spectrum of legal studies and includes an extensive collection on the history of law. The collection’s focus is aligned with the university’s teaching and research profile; access to digital content is being continuously expanded.

Research

The collection of legal literature is predominantly held in the Law Branch Library (Ha 11) and has been fully catalogued electronically since 1991.

The collections are organised according to an in-house classification system.

The call numbers for the collections – which, with a few exceptions, can be borrowed freely – can be found via Ha:Lit.

Image catalogues

For literature published up to 1990, our image catalogues are also available; some of the historical holdings are organised according to a classification system using Roman numerals (I – XXX).

Specialist Information Service

The Specialist Information Service for International and Interdisciplinary Legal Research offers a range of services for the discipline. In addition to a virtual specialist library, a specialist repository and a blog and podcast aggregator are also available.

To search for legal literature, there are various specialist databases available, which you can find in the ULB’s Database Information System (DBIS).

History and Profile of the Subject

The study of law at Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg has a long history. You can find detailed information on the legal tradition in Halle here. The research is organised around the following key areas: „International Business Law“, „Medicine, Ethics and Law“, „Digitalisation and Law“, and „Fundamentals of Law and Social Cohesion“.
