Research

Printed works in the Department of Physics are mainly located in the Heide-Süd Branch Library. Older collections are held in the stacks and are available for use in the reading room. The ULB’s catalogues can be used to search for the collections and their locations.

Much of the current literature is available in electronic form (e-books, e-journals, databases) and can be accessed within the university network – via VPN accessible even from outside the university. Here, too, the ULB’s catalogues provide a starting point for research and access.

You can find the subject’s electronically available journals in the Electronic Journals Library (EZB).

Databases

Various specialist databases are available for your research; you can find these in the ULB’s Database Information System (DBIS).

Information on Open Science

Subject-specific services

FAIRmat – FAIRe data infrastructure for condensed matter physics and the chemical physics of solids
DAPHNE4NFDI – Data from photon and neutron experiments
PUNCH4NFDI – Particles, the Universe, Nuclei and Hadrons for the NFDI

Please remember that when carrying out research from outside the university network, you must VPN- Activate the connection.

History and Profile of the Subject

The Institute of Physics is currently represented by 20 professorships and encompasses theoretical and experimental physics.

The Department of Physics offers degree programmes in Physics at Bachelor’s and Master’s level, as well as a teacher training programme for secondary schools and grammar schools. In addition, there is a degree programme in Medical Physics (B.Sc./M.Sc.). There is academic overlap and collaboration with, for example, Computer Science, Mathematics and Medicine.
