Benefits + Visit

The extensive collection of the University and State Library of Saxony-Anhalt is available to students and staff at Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg, as well as to the general public. To borrow items and access our electronic resources, you will need a Library card.

Information on using and visiting the library

The collections of the University and State Library of Saxony-Anhalt are spread across the main library and twelve branch libraries. Whilst the collections in the branch libraries are freely accessible to users, the Central Library’s collections are stored in stacks and must be requested via the catalogues for viewing or borrowing.

Titles published more than 100 years ago may only be consulted on the library premises. More recent items are generally available for loan. Reference works, journal and newspaper volumes, microfilm/microfiche editions, loose-leaf collections and other special collections are excluded from this. Non-circulating monographic holdings in the reading rooms and branch libraries are marked with yellow call number labels.

Items from the central stacks that are not available for home loan are made available in the reading rooms once an order has been placed.

In the main reading room, you can view non-circulating items ordered from the stacks and interlibrary loans. Workstations, computers, microform readers and a document scanner are available.
