Library Holdings and Acquisitions
Thanks to the rich musical history of the town of Hall, the University and State Library holds a collection of music manuscripts and printed works that has grown over time. This historical collection is supplemented by specialist literature in both printed and electronic formats. The current focus of the collection is aligned with the university’s teaching and research priorities, and the aim is to continually expand access to electronic content.

History and Characterisation of the Subject
The subject of music at Halle is divided into the departments of musicology and music education. Musicology covers the subject areas of historical and systematic musicology, as well as ethnomusicology. Music education focuses on the artistic and pedagogical field. Both departments form part of the Institute for Music, Media and Speech Sciences, which was founded in 2016.
