Usage + Visit

The extensive range of services offered by the University and State Library of Saxony-Anhalt is open to students and staff of the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg as well as all citizens. You need a library card to borrow media and to access our electronic resources.

Information on using and visiting the library

The resources of the  University and State Library of Saxony-Anhalt are divided between the central library and twelve branch libraries. While the holdings in the branch libraries are openly accessible to users, the holdings of the Central Library are kept in stacks and have to be ordered using the catalogues for consultation or borrowing.

Titles published more than 100 years ago can only be consulted on library premises. Holdings published more recently are usually lendable. Reference works, periodical works and newspaper volumes, microfilm/microfiche editions, loose-leaf publications and other special collections are exempt from this regulation. Monographic holdings in the reading rooms and branch libraries that cannot be borrowed are marked with yellow shelfmarks.

Resources from the Central Repositories that are exempt from lending outside the library are made available in the reading areas after an order has been placed on them.

In the main reading area, it is possible to consult non-lendable media of our stacks as well as interlibrary loans. Workstations, PCs, microform readers and an overhead scanner are available.
