Literaturverwaltung mit Citavi

Martin-Luther-University holds a site license for the efficient literature reference management program Citavi Team. It can be used by the staff, faculty members and students of our university for their studies, teaching and research, either at their office or at home.

The use of Citavi and Citavi Web is currently available until September 2024. The Universität und Landes Bibliothek offers training courses about this program. For current dates of these courses and registration, please visit our blog. The courses give insights into Citavi 6.

The use of Citavi 6 is connected with a cloud-service. You can get an overview of all relevant changes of this version on the Citavi-Website   . For any questions about Citavi, please contact the training team:

Current note

The renewed license is now unlocked. If you already have a Citavi-Account, you should have received an e-mail with information concerning this matter. Please, check your university e-mail account for it. If there are any problems with renewing your license please follow the steps described at these pages:

If you do not have a Citavi-Account yet, please note the information below.

Installation (Desktop-Version)

  • Please download Citavi Free for Windows from the Citavi-site    for free and install the software
  • In order to use the site license for Citavi Pro please create a Citavi account. You will receive an e-mail with a conformation link. Important: Please use your university e-mail address. Due to security reasons the link will only be valid for 72h.
  • Please set login details for your Citavi account.
  • As a user of the site license you will be able anytime to get licenses of older versions of Citavi, as well. To do that, please login into your Citavi-account (Citavi.com/login). Scroll to the end of the site and press “new license”. Please choose “License for an earlier version of Citavi” and select the one you need. You will now obtain new license data. Please save it to your clipboard.
  • Enter obtained license data:
    Start Citavi – on the start screen click on “license data” – please click on “enter license data”.
    Please confirm the license agreement and click on “finish”.
    The license data will be approved automatically. Your version of Citavi is now activated.
  • The license key updates the free version into the full version for the duration of the site license agreement.

Citavi Web

Citavi Web can be used independently of the Desktop-Version in a web browser. Now, it is also possible to use it on computers running MacOS or Linux.

If you already have a Citavi-Account you simply can use it by entering your user details on Citavi Web   .

If you do not have an account yet, please create one. To confirm your connection to the MLU, please use your university e-mail address to create this account without any issues.
