Publication fund - journal articles

The MLU publication fund supports members of the Martin Luther University and of the University Hospital Halle (Saale) by providing reimbursement for the publication costs for Open Access journal articles. Before you write an application, please make sure that you meet the eligibility criteria.

How to apply for funding:

  1. Please check whether your application meets the eligibility criteria.
  2. Apply by using the form German / English. The University and State Library (ULB) will review applications as quickly as possible. Applicants will be notified within one week.
  3. Publication fees over 2000 are to be covered by the applicant him-/herself. You can apply for a reimbursement of the maximum amount of funding (2000) afterwards. Invoices for publication fees below 2000 (incl. VAT) should be sent to the library directly using the following address:

The ULB has negotiated improved conditions with the following publishers:

Publication Fund – Support of Open Access Projects

The MLU has committed itself to supporting its researchers when they publish in Open Access formats. The publication fund is therefore also meant to support Open Access initiatives and projects in various forms. For example:

  • transition of existing university journals from print to Open Access models
  • layout grants for the publication of scientific Open Access journals/ conference papers, proceedings or similar

Application for up to 2000€ as support for such projects can be sent to:

To apply, please send a sketch of your project on two pages DIN A4 max., including the following information:

  • project idea
  • details on subject-specific quality assurance
  • finance- and task planning
  • information on sustainability of the project (staff, structures, data retention, indexing)
  • details on the project manager, contact information

The applications will be evaluated and reviewed by the Open Science rectorship committee under the leadership of Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Paul, prorector for research.
