historical collections
The University and State Library Saxony-Anhalt has an extensive collection of manuscripts and autographs; 49 researcher papers and partial papers (within the researcher papers), 5622 broadsheets (portraits and vedute), 1600 incunabula, 350 rare books and approx. 4000 documents. The manuscript inventory includes, among other, around 400 medieval occidental manuscripts (Latin, German, Dutch, Romanesque), over 550 musical manuscripts, oriental and modern manuscripts of various origins.
Larger, closed parts of the collection are formed from the manuscripts from the former possession of Johann August von Ponickau, the Abbey and High School Library Quedlingburg, as well as the so-called Hungarian Library, the music manuscripts of the Enlightenment period and the Biedermeier period from the Arno Werner music library.
Orders for materials from the inventory of the historical collections are not delivered as part of the loan service of the German libraries, but only on request to the historical collections department.
In regards of the manuscripts, incunabula and researcher's papers as well as other special materials from the historical collections, please not that these are only available after prior written request. We kindly ask you to submit written orders at least two working days ahead of your intended visit to the reading room via historische-sammlungen@bibliothek.uni-halle.de. Up to five objects can be reserved in advance.
