Library Holdings and Acquisitions
Due to the interdisciplinary orientation of the subject, the collections include both humanities and natural sciences-medical literature and consists of printed as well as electronic resources. The current collection foci are aligned with the prevailing profile of university teaching and research, and the aim is to continually expand access to electronic content.
Finding and Using
The subject-relevant literature is mainly located in the Branch Library Steintor-Campus and already completely electronically indexed.
Books acquired up to 2014 are shelved according to an individual classification system.
Books acquired from 2015 onwards are shelved according to the Regensburger Verbundsklassifikation (RVK).
Further literature can be found in the branch libraries of medicine, both Medical Campus and University Hospital, as well as at the branch library Heide-Süd.
Consultation and Training Services
Library introductions, training courses for literature research and literature management systems (Citavi, EndNote and Zotero) as well as consultations on publication strategies and research data management take place at regular intervals.

Electronically available journals of the specific subject are indexed in the Electronic Journals Library (EZB).
There are numerous specialized databases available for researching information. These are researchable via the Database Information System (DBIS).

History and Profiling of the Subject
Speech sciences are an interdisciplinary subject focused on phonetics, rhetorical and speech-art communication as well as speech formation and speech disorders. Courses on topics of speech sciences have been offered in Halle since 1906. The Institute for the Study of Speech, founded in 1938, was the first in Germany and was later merged with the phonetic collection in 1947. Since 2016, Speech Sciences constitute a part of the Institute for Music, Media and Speech Sciences as a separate department.
