Emergency Management

Conservation also includes preparing for an emergency. For example, each ULB site has its own emergency plan, which is adjusted to specific local conditions and is annually renewed.

For the recovery of library holdings deemed worthy of protection, the ULB can rely on the Kultururgutschutz-Notfallverbund Halle, a voluntary association of museums, archives and libraries located in Halle, which are there to help each other in the state of emergency.

The aim of an emergency association is to provide each other with personnel and technical assistance in the event of fires, natural disasters or other accidents with the objective of salvaging and safeguarding cultural heritage. For this purpose, the members regularly conduct emergency drills to be prepared for different scenarios and to rehearse and continuously improve the procedures of an emergency operation.
