Regional Bibliography of Saxony-Anhalt
Overview
What is the Regional Bibliography?
The Regional Bibliography of Saxony-Anhalt is a catalogue of literature
- Related to all regions, districts and localities of the federal state of Saxony-Anhalt,
- On all areas of life and knowledge (e.g. regional history and nature, art and culture, economy, population, social affairs),
- On personalities who were either born in Saxony-Anhalt or worked here for a longer time.
It is therefore characterised both scientific and informative.
The Regional Bibliography of Saxony-Anhalt was initiated in 1965 and has been published continuously encompassing around two reporting years. The last printed volume appeared in 1999 regarding the reporting years 1997/1998. The reporting area includes the present-day administrative districts of Dessau, Halle and Magdeburg.
You can search the by now more than 240,000 title entires in the online catalogue of the Regional Bibliography of Saxony-Anhalt, which is not only constantly being expanded, but also retrospectively supplemented.
Please be aware, that not all titles referenced in the catalogue are also in the holdings of the University and State Library of Saxony-Anhalt. Those being part of the holdings are especially marked in the catalogue by indicating the call number or the sigil of the branch library. What is indexed in the Regional Bibliography?
The bibliography covers almost all genres of literature and types of media, not only in German, but, for instance, also in English or French. Included are monographs, doctoral theses, journal and newspaper articles, contributions from anniversary publications and compilations as well as extensive reviews in periodicals.
Literature published in Saxony-Anhalt but with no reference to the area of the federal state in terms of content is not listed. Reports on exhibitions, conferences, congresses, etc. are treated similarly.

Please note that any publication issued/published in Saxony-Anhalt has to be handed over in at least one copy and free of charge to the University and State Library of Saxony-Anhalt. The compulsory delivery is regulated by § 11 of the Press Law of the Federal State of Saxony-Anhalt (German only).
