Library Holdings and Acquisitions
Thanks to the rich musical history of the city of Hall, the University and State Library owns a historically grown collection of music manuscripts and prints . This historical collection is supplemented by specialist literature in both, print and electronic form. The current collection foci are aligned with the prevailing profile of university teaching and research, and the aim is to continually expand access to electronic content.

History and Profiling of the Subject
The subject of music in Halle is divided into the departments of musicology and music education. Musicology covers the subject areas of historical and systematic musicology as well as ethnomusicology. Music education focuses on the artistic-pedagogical field. Both departments are part of the Institute for Music, Media and Speech Sciences, which was founded in 2016.
