The University and State Library preserves several letters written by Luther himself and numerous contemporary prints of his works. The organisers invite you to decipher Luther’s writing together, delve into his expressive language and take a look at various Wittenberg prints. Afterwards, you have the opportunity to learn exciting things about Katharina von Bora and Martin Luther by means of a curatorial tour of the foyer exhibition “Luther in Love”, designed by students of the department for German Studies: It’s all about the two of them as lovers and husband and wife – a creative approach to the source texts allows interesting insights here! The pivotal point is Luther’s famous pamphlet entitled “Ursach und Antwort, dass Jungfrauen Klöster göttlich verlassen mögen” (Cause and Answer that Virgins May Divinely Leave Monasteries), which was printed in 1523 and thus in a sense celebrates its 500th anniversary this year.
